Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - This Friday, the Abitur exams will begin in North Rhine-Westphalia for around 90,000 students under difficult pandemic conditions.

79,000 students from grammar schools, comprehensive schools, advanced training colleges and Waldorf schools as well as 11,000 examinees at the vocational colleges are facing the Abi 2021, as the Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday.

It is ensured that they can take fair exams that lead to a full and nationwide comparable Abitur, said School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP).

The state student council disagreed.

The prospective high school graduates lacked subject matter, there were four to five months less classroom teaching than usual, said Johanna Börgermann and Thomas Niebuer from the LSV board of directors.

"The starting position is very unequal," said Niebuer.

On the one hand, the prerequisites differed greatly depending on the school and the teaching staff.

And on the student side, the distance teaching worked very well for some.

Others would have had to look after younger siblings at home or had insufficient technical options.

"This central high school diploma is unfair."

As early as 2020, the high school graduates had to take their exams under corona-related restrictions.

At that time, the pandemic had only been a reality for a few months - for the current examinees, however, throughout their entire last school year.
