Freiberg (dpa / sn) - The solar module manufacturer Meyer Burger wants to start production next month at the traditional Freiberg location.

The plant is to be officially opened from May 26th, said managing director Gunter Erfurt on Wednesday in Freiberg.

That is almost exactly ten years after Solarworld opened.

Meyer Burger wants to revive Freiberg's tradition as a major production location in Europe, according to Erfurt.

The machines are currently being installed and production lines are being prepared.

The Swiss company took over the factory of the bankrupt solar module manufacturer Solarworld in Freiberg last year.

Meyer Burger wants to build solar modules there from cells that were previously manufactured in a second plant in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

Production is scheduled to start there on May 18th.

Initially, around 300 jobs are to be created at both locations; in the long term, up to 3,500 jobs are planned.
