Dortmund (dpa) - Ironically, a protected gray parrot has landed at a window of the customs in Dortmund, which is also responsible for species protection.

The animal suddenly sat on a windowsill on the fourth floor on Tuesday morning, as the main customs office announced on Wednesday.

"The colleague thought at first it was a pigeon," said a spokeswoman.

He was very trusting and allowed himself to be lifted into the building without resistance.

The main customs office announced that the bird had made itself comfortable in the office on the shoulder of a customs officer by the time the fire brigade arrived and handed the parrot over to the animal welfare department.

It is therefore not yet clear where the animal comes from.

According to the spokeswoman, the parrot was ringed.

The holder can now possibly be determined.

According to the main customs office, African gray parrots are protected under the European Species Protection Ordinance and the Federal Nature Conservation Act, among other things.
