Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced the postponement of the Istanbul conference on Afghanistan - which was scheduled for April 24 - until after Ramadan, while the US State Department confirmed that the Istanbul talks on Afghanistan are not an alternative to the Doha negotiations.

Ihsanoglu's announcement of the conference was postponed in a TV interview on the Turkish channel, "Khabar Turk", on Tuesday.

On April 13, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that the Afghan peace negotiations would be held in Istanbul between April 24 and May 4.

For his part, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the ongoing talks in Istanbul on the Afghan issue are not an alternative to the larger and more comprehensive political process in Doha.

"It is an effort that is still going on, as we will continue to invest our resources and political weight, realizing that only through diplomacy and an Afghan-led political settlement will we be able to help support the establishment of peace and stability there," he added.

And Price stressed - during a press conference - that the Afghan issue can only be resolved through diplomacy.

Car bomb

On the other hand, Afghan media announced that a car bomb had targeted a convoy of the National Security and Intelligence Forces in the ninth district of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

And the media indicated that a number of the wounded were taken to hospitals, while no figures have been released yet on the number of victims.

Pictures and videos posted on social media showed plumes of smoke billowing from the explosion in Kabul.
