Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt's state capital Magdeburg, according to the responsible medical officer, the schools are currently a driver of the infection process.

At 43 schools, 779 pupils who tested positive are currently being monitored by the health department, plus 69 teachers, the physician Eike Hennig told journalists on Wednesday.

"And we will continue to see a high increase."

The seven-day incidence of 100 new infections

per 100,000 inhabitants within a week will certainly not be undercut for any longer.

Despite the current situation, the pupils, who are considered to be contact persons, should have the opportunity to participate in classes and the upcoming exams.

They are currently in "work quarantine", are allowed to go to school and attend classes, but have to wear an FFP2 mask if possible, it said.

Mayor Lutz Trümper (SPD) referred to the successes achieved.

On February 23, all residents of old people's and nursing homes who wanted this were fully vaccinated.

It must therefore be considered whether this group of people could not be given more freedom, such as eating meals together.

However, this is not a decision that the city can make on its own.
