Berlin (dpa / bb) - After the Eisbären Berlin failed in the playoffs of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), coach Serge Aubin found clear words.

"The discipline was not nearly as it should be in the playoffs," criticized the Canadian after the 3: 4 against Iserlohn Roosters on Tuesday evening: "Unfortunately, the penalty times ultimately cost us the game."

Due to the sobering defeat, the capital city threatens the premature end of the season.

On Thursday (7.30 p.m. / Magentasport) they have to win in Iserlohn to equalize in the best-of-three series and to maintain their semi-final chance.

Whoever wins two games is further.

Ultimately, two fouls shortly before the end were decisive for the opening failure in the quarter-finals.

The resulting double majority was used by Iserlohn attacker Brent Aubin 59 seconds before the end of the game to score the guests' winning goal.

But during the entire game, the Berliners had decimated themselves too often.

“We played three against five twice - for a total of three and a half minutes.

That's not how you win ice hockey games, ”said polar bear coach Aubin.

In addition to the many penalties, the capitals showed other weaknesses: unlike the effective Iserlohner, they missed too many scoring chances, and often lack of precision in attack and defensive order.

"We wanted a little too much and tried too much with the crowbar," said Captain Frank Hördler.

The 36-year-old defender called for corrections to be made for the upcoming game, which is so important.

"We have to force ourselves to keep everything simple and to work a lot," he said.

"At the end of the day, it's about who makes fewer mistakes."
