Aschaffenburg (dpa / lby) - For the Aschaffenburg public prosecutor's office, the trial of a father accused of murder did not provide any clear evidence that the man killed his daughter.

The 46-year-old was unable to prove the act, said Chief Public Prosecutor Jürgen Bundschuh on Wednesday in front of the Aschaffenburg Regional Court in his closing remarks.

"It is of course most regrettable when the death of a girl (...) here goes unpunished."

However, Bundschuh regards the attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm of the daughter's friend in June 2017, around a month after the 19-year-old disappeared, as proven.

"The defendant hated the relationship."

For the knife attack on the then 23-year-old, the Syrian should be imprisoned for eleven years, he said.

The young woman disappeared in May 2017 and was only found dead in a forest near Aschaffenburg in December 2018.

The cause of death is unclear.

The defendant had not commented on the allegations at the trial.

The verdict could be pronounced on Thursday after the defense’s pleading.
