Rotenburg (AP) - More than four years after the murder of a 46-year-old Albanian on the street in the small town of Visselhövede in Lower Saxony, the police arrested two men in the Netherlands.

A 34-year-old Albanian was accused of firing the fatal shots at the victim on January 9, 2017, said the Rotenburg police station and the Verden public prosecutor's office on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old compatriot is said to have been involved in the planning, preparation and execution of the crime.

Both were arrested with arrest warrants by special units of the Dutch police in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Further details could not be given.

The arrests took place just two days after the police surprisingly discovered the possible murder weapon on Monday during a renewed site search on the A7 near Bad Fallingbostel.

The act made headlines across Germany at the time.

The 46-year-old was shot in 2017 in Visselhövede (Rotenburg district) in broad daylight in front of a primary school by perpetrators on a motorcycle.

The shooter fired twelve shots at his victim from the pillion seat.

In 2018, an Albanian who was then 23 years old was sentenced to life imprisonment.

He was the driver of the motorcycle.

The motive for the crime was revenge.
