Schwerin (dpa) - The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival has canceled the first concerts of their summer season due to the corona pandemic.

The bicycle concert on June 20 in Schwerin and the concerts with the Dresden Kreuzchor on July 16, 17 and 18 in Wolgast, Demmin and Rostock are affected, said director Ursula Haselböck.

Due to the flexibility of the visitors - the guests cycle from one concert venue to the next - the bicycle concert is not feasible under the current conditions.

The Dresden Kreuzchor could not rehearse under the current conditions.

Another concert will be postponed from June to November: Affected is the concert of the series “Unheard places” in Rostock's Ostseestadion on June 24th.

It should be made up on November 10th.

The festival had to reschedule completely in the previous summer season and could only offer part of its concerts in a smaller format.

The festival winter, in which concerts should be rescheduled, and the festival spring 2020 and 2021 on Rügen fell completely victim to the pandemic.

To what extent the festival summer beginning on June 12th with over 140 planned concerts can be carried out at all is still open, according to Haselböck.

The team is currently working on adapted formats in order to be able to carry out large parts of the three-month concert program in a pandemic-friendly manner.

For the necessary planning security, however, a state ordinance for the summer is urgently needed.

This is still pending.
