Gera (dpa / th) - The consequences of the Corona crisis are being felt for more and more East Thuringian craft businesses.

Even the construction and finishing trades, which were still rather robust in autumn 2020, had to suffer from the situation in recent months, as a survey by the Chamber of Crafts (HWK) for East Thuringia presented on Wednesday revealed.

Hairdressers or beauty salons and photographers are particularly affected.

The automotive and healthcare industries also saw declines.

According to the HWK Gera, after the spring survey at the end of the first quarter, only 73 percent of the companies reported a good or satisfactory business situation.

That is a deterioration of around 20 percent compared to the previous year and the worst value in the past 30 years.

According to the HWK, only 50 percent of the companies spoke of increased or unchanged sales.

The willingness of craft companies to invest fell significantly in the spring of 2021 due to the continued uncertain economic situation.

"If we continue to experience an above-average burden due to constant lockdowns and the associated closings and restrictions of entire business areas, we are threatened with a breakdown of the craft structures in the Free State," said the President of the Chamber of Crafts in East Thuringia, Wolfgang Jacob.
