Berlin (dpa / bb) - After accusations of racism, the dispute between a dancer and the Berlin State Ballet comes to court.

The Berlin labor court hears on Wednesday (3 p.m.) the lawsuit of the dancer Chloé Lopes Gomes, whose contract with the company had not been extended.

Lopes Gomes demands a return to the company.

It is also about the allegation of racism.

Lopes Gomes accused the State Ballet of repeatedly having to listen to racist comments from the training director.

The employee said that the State Ballet shouldn't have hired her because she was black.

A black woman in a “corps de ballet” is not aesthetic, not homogeneous.

For a “Swan Lake” performance, she was asked to put on white make-up.

Last season, the two co-directors Sasha Waltz and Johannes Öhman had surprisingly left the State Ballet.

Since then, the company has been looking for a new management.

This is also an opportunity to realign the State Ballet and to create a protected atmosphere in the ensemble, production and administration, the State Ballet had declared.
