Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The opening of outdoor catering in the "Saarland model" has proven itself according to the assessment of the hotel and restaurant association Dehoga in Saarland.

"Unfortunately, especially the weather was a brake," said Dehoga managing director Frank C. Hohrath of the German press agency in Saarbrücken.

Because since the start of the opening model on April 6, it has often been too cold and too wet to sit on terraces.

Guests are currently allowed to use outdoor catering in Saarland if they submit a daily negative Corona test.

Far from all restaurateurs with outdoor catering have opened their areas, said Hohrath.

He estimated that around 40 percent of them would have participated.

"If it were a lot warmer, there would be a lot more that would open."

With pleasant temperatures, the offers would be very well received by visitors.

"It was well received by the population," he said.

According to Dehoga Saar, the state government has "made the right step" with the test-based openings.

Many restaurateurs think it is good "that after five months of lockdown they finally have a choice".

He finds it regrettable that some of the openings will be over when the federal emergency brake comes into force.

"From our point of view, it is not right to base decisions only on the incidence value," he said.

This means that nothing will change in gastronomy.

"We are therefore pushing for a more intelligent system."

The “Saarland model” is important for drawing knowledge from openings on the basis of tests.

Many companies are currently worried about their existence, said Hohrath.

"At the moment, you shimmy your way through."

The “acid test” comes when things actually start again.

It is regrettable that skilled workers have been lost.

According to Dehoga, there are around 3,500 hotels and restaurants in Saarland with around 18,000 employees.
