As early as September, Swedavia announced that it was no longer profitable to operate Bromma Airport.

The fact that the government now wants to close the airport is causing bad blood in several places.

- The report from Swedavia was produced during a burning pandemic and then it is clear that you do not get a positive message.

A private alternative has emerged that wants to run the airport and says they can do it with profit.

As far as we know, they have not even listened to it, says Fredrik Kämpfe, industry manager for Transportföretagen Flyg.

The M-top wants to see the investment in Arlanda first

Finance Region Councilor Irene Svenonius (M) wants to see an investment in Arlanda before Bromma Airport can be scrapped.

- I want to see the shovel in the ground at Arlanda before Bromma's fate is decided.

Aviation is crucial for Sweden's competitiveness.

Stockholm has the most international headquarters in the entire Nordic region and is dependent on a large modern airport with direct routes to the whole world.

It is therefore extremely important that Arlanda aims to become the Nordic region's leading airport, she says.

Imaginary homes on the site

In Stockholm, there has been a heated political debate about Bromma Airport's future.

The Green Party wants to see housing on the site, something that the bourgeois parties have not been as fond of.

- For me as a representative of the capital, the important message is that there is finally clear information about Arlanda's development. We have been missing that for a long time. At the same time, it is important that Swedish domestic aviation is secured, therefore it is not possible to discuss a closure of Bromma Airport until there is a clear plan for how national and international accessibility is to be secured, says Finance Councilor Anna König Jerlmyr (M).
