April 21, 2021 "From May, Lombardy will use molecular saliva tests in schools, which are the result of an experiment carried out by the University of Milan. These tests, less invasive and easier to use, have the same validity as the molecular nasopharyngeal swab. they will therefore allow to implement an even more accurate monitoring of the spread of the virus, without the need to employ health personnel, who will be able to dedicate themselves to the vaccination campaign and to the care of patients hospitalized and not in hospitals ".

This was announced by the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana.

"The request to use molecular salivaries - explained Fontana - had already been made several months ago to the national CTS without obtaining answers. Finally yesterday Minister Speranza confirmed that all types of tests already authorized in countries that are part of the G7 can be used also in Italy. Therefore, considering that this test has already obtained the authorization in most of these including France, USA and Japan, our region will be the first to use it in Italy, in place of the nasopharyngeal molecular swab, at the moment the only tool to confirm the positivity to Covid-19 ".

"I am very honored and I thank all the team of Professor Gianvincenzo Zuccotti, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the State of Milan - concluded Fontana - who worked tirelessly to complete the first Italian test of this type, confirming again once the Lombard excellence also in the field of Research ".
