Los Angeles (dpa) - The Oscar election is over: the ballot papers of the more than 9,000 Oscar jurors had to arrive online at the Beverly Hills Film Academy by Tuesday evening (local time).

The secret will be revealed on Sunday at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Until then, employees of the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers will count the votes.

The closely guarded results in 23 categories will be brought directly to the award gala on Sunday.

With ten nominations, the biography "Mank" is this year's Oscar favorite.

This is followed by six films, each with six nominations: “The Father”, the drama “Minari - Where We Put Down Roots” about a Korean-American family, the biopic “Judas and the Black Messiah”, the road movie “Nomadland”, “Sound of Metal” and the court thriller “The Trial of the Chicago 7”.

Actors this year include Viola Davis, Frances McDormand, Carey Mulligan, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins and posthumously Chadwick Boseman in the Oscar race.

The show on April 25th is scheduled to take place with this year's Oscar nominees.

In Los Angeles, in addition to the traditional Dolby Theater in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Union Station building is planned as a stage for the first time.

Due to corona requirements and the associated travel difficulties, international locations are also planned from which the price contenders can be connected.
