recorded more than 2,000 deaths from Covid and nearly 300,000 new infections in 24 hours, one of the most dramatic figures in the world in the daily estimates of the pandemic. The Ministry of Health reported 295,000 new cases in 24 hours, similar to those seen in the United States in January, and 2,023 deaths, bringing the country's total death toll to 182,553.
