Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Because of several corona infections in the Stuttgart penal institution, en masse prisoners and employees have been tested. The director of the facility, Matthias Nagel, confirmed this to the German press agency in Stuttgart on Wednesday. The talk was of around 100 prisoners and 100 employees who had been tested. The results are expected on Thursday, said Nagel. Two infected prisoners, each aged 24, are currently in isolation in their unit. Where and how the prisoners got infected is still unclear. But they didn't have a lot of social contacts, said Nagel. "We assume that not much will come." Another prisoner had tested positive. An employee who tested positive would be at home.

The prison has rooms in the health department that are actually intended for tuberculosis cases to accommodate the infected, said Nagel.

Because of the corona outbreak, a freeze on admission was imposed on Monday in the prison in Stuttgart-Stammheim.

Communication with the outside world was restricted to the bare minimum.

Because defendants could not appear in court, several trials had to be adjourned this week.
