• A place dedicated to the Breton puck will soon see the light of day in Rennes.

  • The project was acclaimed as part of the fifth season of the city's participatory budget.

  • Very popular in Rennes, this game consists of sending steel pucks on a wooden board while trying to get as close as possible to the little one.

A delirium between friends that will soon materialize. The project of the association La P'tite Planche was, in fact, acclaimed within the framework of the fifth participatory budget of the city of Rennes (see box) by collecting 1,454 votes, only a playground project in the Arsenal district. Redon having collected more votes. In the coming months, a “palodrome” will therefore see the light of day in the Breton capital with the possibility of playing the puck indoors when the weather conditions are bad.

Rich with an envelope of 250,000 euros released by the city for their project, the members of La P'tite Planche will now get down to finding the most suitable place to erect this temple of the Breton puck.

With this equipment, the sound of "cast iron" slamming on the board has not finished resounding in the Breton capital.

“Of course, there are plans to organize tournaments there, but also meetings to promote Rennes culture with concerts and exhibitions,” explains Benjamin Boin, secretary of the association.

"We wanted to introduce the Breton puck to as many people as possible"

La P'tite Planche was founded in the spring of 2019 by a group of friends passionate about this game of skill, a kind of local pétanque which consists of sending steel pucks onto a wooden board while trying to get as close as possible to the small. "We wanted to introduce the Breton puck to as many people as possible by highlighting its convivial aspect", underlines Benjamin Boin. After having introduced Parisians to this game with rather vague origins and organized a few tournaments such as the Route du Rock in Saint-Malo, its members also secretly dreamed of having a place dedicated to the Breton puck in Rennes.

This future “palodrome” will allow the Breton puck to expand its circle of followers before, perhaps one day, entering the Olympic Games.

Because except in Brittany, the game remains relatively unknown.

It is however very popular in Ille-et-Vilaine as well as in Mayenne and in the east of Côtes-d'Armor.

“It is one of the pillars of local culture,” assures Benjamin Keltz, author of the book

In fine weather, shuffleboard boards flourish in parks or on the terraces of certain bistros in the Breton capital.

Thirty-one projects selected in the participatory budget

Season 5 of the participatory budget of the city of Rennes delivered its verdict on Wednesday with 31 projects carried by residents or associations that were selected.

In the coming months, phosphorescent cycle paths as well as pedestrian streets in front of schools will emerge.

Each district of Rennes will also have the right to its realization such as the creation of a sauna in Bréquigny, an outdoor dance floor in the Saint-Martin meadows, a pump track in Beauregard or a wintering house for the hedgehogs near the Saint-Hélier district.
