Two Algerian ministers pay high-level visit to Libya

Two Algerian ministers, Sabri Boukadoum, of Foreign Affairs and Kamel Beldjoud of the Interior, went to Tripoli on Monday (April 19) at the head of a high-level delegation.

It is a working visit which falls within the framework of " 

the promotion of bilateral relations and the support of the Libyan parties in the face of current challenges,

 " said a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The opportunity for Algiers to recall its position in the face of the Libyan crisis.

This is Sabri Boukadoum's second visit to Tripoli since the start of the year.

Like the first time, he said his country was ready to play a "

role 

to support reconciliation in Libya.

Algiers reiterated on Monday its lasting position in the face of the Libyan crisis: diplomatic support for the new power and the political process, reconciliation, the reunification of institutions and elections far from any interference.

President Tebboune reiterated this position to his Libyan counterpart last week in his letter of congratulations on the start of Ramadan.

Algeria seeks to resume its role in Libya to weigh again in this issue where it is competing with Morocco.

It also fears for its security and considers that its stability depends on that of Libya.

The common border between the two countries is a source of concern and permanent control for the Algerian army.

Algiers is also seeking to establish itself as an economic partner in Libya.

It offered its assistance to Tripoli in the field of electricity as well as in other sectors.

A forum for businessmen from two countries will be held soon.

For his part, Libyan President Mohammed el-Menfi praised the “ 

deep and historic 

” relations between the two countries.

He said he wanted to respond to President Tebboune's invitation as soon as possible.
