Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A speedboat of the SEK of the Hamburg police had to be salvaged from the port in Steinwerder.

According to the police, officials on Monday evening had detected a water ingress in the boat attached to a jetty of the water police.

The fire brigade pumped out the water first and later hid the entire boat.

Why water suddenly seeped in was initially unclear, the police said they were assuming a technical defect.

Before the incident, the boat had been in port for 14 days without a disturbance or water ingress being noticed.

The boat is now being checked and should be repaired.

The police have not yet been able to provide any information on the amount of damage.
