Munich (dpa) - World footballer Robert Lewandowski wants to get back into team training at FC Bayern Munich this Wednesday in the hunt for Gerd Müller's 40-goal record.

"The plan is that I play again on the weekend," said Lewandowski on Tuesday on the club's website.

He wanted to do a normal training session with his colleagues again on Wednesday, said the Pole.

After his knee injury, a game on Tuesday evening at the home game of Munich against Bayer Leverkusen came too early, Mainz on Saturday is said to be the comeback opponent.

Gerd Müller's record is almost 40 years old.

“I don't know if I'll make it.

There are four games to break the record.

That means I have to score at least six more goals, ”said Lewandowski.

He has 35 hits on the account.

After his break, however, there are “question marks” about how things are going for him without a rhythm.

"I hope that when I'm back on the field, I'll be able to show my level from the first minute, play the best football and score goals," said Lewandowski.
