Hamburg (dpa) - The Hamburg police have been publicly looking for a suspected serial burglar who has been in custody in Stuttgart for several months for almost two weeks.

A Hamburg police spokesman announced on Tuesday that the 30-year-old man was arrested in Baden-Württemberg in mid-December and taken to the Stammheim prison.

He is charged with almost 50 acts.

The suspect is said to have committed 21 break-ins into houses, apartments and a business in Hamburg, and 27 others in Baden-Württemberg.

In Frankfurt, too, he is said to have left his DNA trail after a break-in.

During a break-in in an apartment building in Hamburg-Marienthal, the man was captured by a surveillance camera in January of last year.

The police have been searching with the pictures since April 7th.

Now a DNA sample from Stuttgart uncovered the connection.
