Meppen (AP) - Rico Schmitt is the new coach of SV Meppen and successor to Torsten Frings.
The 52-year-old receives a contract with the relegation-threatened third division soccer team until June 30, 2022. "I would like to help with full commitment to secure the important goal of relegation for SV Meppen," said Schmitt according to a club announcement on Tuesday.
"The team absolutely has the potential to do so."
Schmitt had last coached FC Carl Zeiss Jena until February of last year.
Meppen broke up with former national player Frings last Wednesday.
This Wednesday, the Emslanders will face their direct rivals 1. FC Magdeburg at home.
