Berlin (dpa) - Friedrich Merz (CDU) has congratulated Armin Laschet, his party colleague and former opponent for the CDU chairmanship, on the vote in the CDU federal executive committee.
During the night, the committee had elected Laschet as candidate for chancellor.
«Congratulations to Armin Laschet.
Now we are looking ahead: Out of the small-small, concrete proposals for the federal election, a decade of modernization for Germany! ”, Merz told the“ Bild ”newspaper on Tuesday.
In January Laschet and Merz faced each other in the fight for the CDU chairmanship, which Laschet won.
Since then, Merz has been supporting his party leader, as he has repeatedly emphasized.
