Berlin (dpa) - Those in charge of the Eisbären Berlin want to prevent a personnel upheaval like before this season.

Last month, the contract with coach Serge Aubin was extended by two years until 2023.

Sports director Stéphane Richer said in an interview with the “Berliner Morgenpost” (Tuesday): “Our wish is now to continue working continuously and to keep a large part of the team.”

For everyone, however, it is still difficult to plan for the future.

"But we don't want to swap as many players every year as we did last," emphasized the 54-year-old Canadian.

Before the first playoff duel with the Iserlohn Roosters on Tuesday evening to make it into the semi-finals of the German ice hockey championship, Richer pointed out the short preparation time after the end of the points round.

"It would be important to get into a good rhythm," he said.

“But this short series is all about the momentum anyway.

If you lose the first game, you are immediately under pressure.

That's not the case in the normal series over five or seven games, ”said Richer.

This time a maximum of three games are possible, if you win two games, you advance.

The polar bears won their seventh and so far last German championship title in 2013. «Like all teams that reach the playoff, we want to become champions.

The goal is there, ”said Richer.

Richer did not want to make a comparison with the team from Berlin, which had celebrated seven titles from 2005 onwards.

“But the polar bears were always offensively dangerous at their most successful times.

The team from 2020/21 has its own identity, but there are certain similarities in terms of offensive strength, ”he said.
