Amid concerns over the Japanese government's plan to release contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant by sea, it was found that fish containing radioactive substances that exceeded the standard were caught in the offshore of Fukushima.

According to a report by the Asahi Shimbun on the 20th, 270 becquerels (㏃) of cesium per kilogram were detected from rockfish caught in a water depth of about 37m off the coast of Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture on the 1st of this month.

The detected cesium is 2.7 times the food limit (100㏃ per 1 kg) set by the Japanese government.

This was revealed in the test results published on the 15th.

On February 22 this year, 500㏃ of cesium per kilogram was detected from rockfish caught off the coast of Fukushima.

The Japanese government's Nuclear Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters ordered Fukushima Prefecture to restrict the shipment of rockfish.

It has been two years since February 2019 that the Japanese government has restricted the shipment of seafood in Fukushima Prefecture.
