Raging battles between the Yemeni National Army and the Houthis continued in the Ma'rib Governorate (northeast of the country), while the fighting forced large numbers of civilians to flee to other areas of the governorate.

The Yemeni Army Media Center said that a number of Houthis were killed or wounded yesterday, Sunday, when the army forces repelled the infiltration attempts of their forces to one of the army's military sites in the Al-Mashjah area in the Sarwah district, west of the Ma'rib governorate.

The army added that violent clashes broke out in Serwah, in conjunction with intense bombing by the Saudi-Emirati coalition warplanes.

For its part, the Houthi media only reported about 16 coalition airstrikes that targeted locations in the Al-Mashjah area in Marib, without further details.

Hundreds of fighters from both sides were killed and wounded in the weeks-long battles in Marib despite international calls for a ceasefire and a political process leading to the end of the war.

Since last February, Houthi militants have launched a large-scale attack towards the city of Marib in an attempt to control the last stronghold of the Yemeni government in the north of the country, but they did not achieve significant progress due to the resistance shown by government forces and the coalition strikes, according to the Associated Press.

In conjunction with the Ma'rib battles, dozens of Houthi militants and the National Army have been killed in the past two days in new clashes in the city of Taiz (southwest), which the Houthis have besieged for years.

Numbers of displaced people

On the other hand, the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Ma'rib Governorate said that it recorded the displacement of more than 24,000 people during the period from February 6 to April 16.

She added that they were displaced to alternative camps due to the escalation of fighting near their camps, and their exposure to bombing by the Houthis.

The IDP Camp Management Unit has appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations to pressure the Houthis to stop their attacks, and to move urgently to provide the necessary relief to the displaced.

The United Nations and several countries had warned of a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe, in light of the Houthis' attempts to advance in the Marib Governorate, which includes large numbers of displaced persons.
