Chinanews.com, April 19th. The National Development and Reform Commission today held a regular press conference in April. Spokesperson Meng Wei revealed when introducing the progress of the new urbanization work at the meeting that the goal of 100 million non-registered people in urban areas has been successfully achieved.

By the end of 2020, the urbanization rate of the permanent population will increase to over 60%, and the urbanization rate of the registered population will increase to 45.4%.

In addition, the strategic pattern of "two horizontal and three vertical" urbanization has taken shape.

Urban agglomerations have grown steadily. The 19 urban agglomerations carry more than 70% of the country’s population and contribute more than 80% of GDP.

The sustainable development capacity of cities has been continuously improved.

The pace of urban industrial transformation and upgrading has accelerated, urban living conditions have been steadily improved, and the construction of a green, smart, and humane city is progressing in an orderly manner.

The top-level design of urban-rural integration development is basically completed.

Urban and rural basic public services are moving toward system integration, quality balance, and leveling. The infrastructure construction of urban and rural integration has achieved remarkable results, and the gap between urban and rural residents' living standards has continued to narrow.

Meng Wei revealed that the National Development and Reform Commission recently issued the "Key Tasks for New Urbanization and Urban-Rural Integration Development in 2021."

In the next step, the National Development and Reform Commission will work with all localities and departments to accelerate the implementation of a new human-centric urbanization strategy, promote the orderly and effective integration of the agricultural transfer population into cities, improve the carrying capacity of urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas, and promote large, medium and small cities and small cities. The coordinated development of cities and towns will accelerate the construction of modern cities, improve the level of urban governance, and accelerate the development of urban-rural integration.
