Only a few lakes, rivers and wetlands will achieve a very good or good status in the coming years, as the Environment Ministry announced to the left-wing parliamentary group in the state parliament.
Of the 193 lakes for which a report has to be submitted, only 2 are in "very good" condition.
33 are rated “good”.
Of the 1,375 rivers, only 86 are rated “good”.
The chemical status of all surface waters is “not good” because they contain too much mercury.
The main sources of pollution are nitrate and phosphorus from agriculture, sewage treatment plants and industry.
