Augsburg (dpa / bb) - The Eisbären Berlin are looking for their form before the first quarter-final game against the Iserlohn Roosters on Tuesday evening (7.30 p.m. / Magentasport and Sport1).

"We definitely need a lot more for the playoffs than what we have shown here," said coach Serge Aubin on Sunday at Magentasport after his team won their last main round match in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with 5: 6 (0 : 3, 2: 0, 3: 2, 0: 0, 0: 1) after a penalty shootout at the Augsburg Panthers.

The Berliners, who were already the first in the DEL North Group and spared some top performers, missed the necessary effort in the first twenty minutes in front of empty stands in the Curt Frenzel Stadium. Andrew LeBlanc, David Stieler in the power play and Daniel Kristo ensured that the hosts were clearly guided. "In the first third we weren't there at all and lost all duels," admitted defender Jonas Müller.

In the second section, the Eisbären came back through an outnumbered goal from Simon Després and a counter goal from Parker Tuomie, but in the final third Simon Sezemsky and again Stieler restored the Augsburg team's three-goal lead.

With late hits from Sebastian Streu, Kris Foucault and Matt White, the Berlin team secured a point before Bradley McClure decided the game in the shootout.

“Of course that's not the result we wanted.

But I liked the way we fought our way back into the game, ”said Aubin.

Against Iserlohn, the coach calls for a clear increase in performance: "In a best-of-three series in the playoffs, you can't afford a single bad change," he warned.
