Chad: the army announces a hundred prisoners after a clash with the Fact

A first confrontation on the ground took place Saturday, April 17 between the loyalist forces and the rebels of the Front for Alternation and Concord in Chad (Fact).

The fighting took place north of Mao, in Kanem province, more than 300 km from the capital Ndjamena.

The armed rebel movement arrived from its rear base in Libya entered Chadian territory on April 11 with the aim of ousting Idriss Deby from power.

The 2,000 men of the Chadian army dispatched to meet the rebel column of the Fact have been camping since Saturday afternoon in the middle of the desert, about 200 kilometers from Mao.

On site, we can see corpses gradually buried by the sand, charred vehicles and a hundred prisoners surrounded by soldiers perched on vehicles torn from the rebels.

We had been following them since Friday when they were reported ... but they left very early on Saturday in a southerly direction, we chased them for several hundred kilometers before finding them where the clash took place, which took place. lasted almost two hours,

 ”said a senior officer.

The army announces between 250 and 300 dead, around 150 prisoners including a leader of a political party who decided to regain the rebellion a few years ago.

Part of the rebel column stalled towards the west and was nowhere to be found this Sunday at the end of the day.
