Stuttgart (dpa) - The Stuttgart member of the Bundestag Karin Maag, health policy spokeswoman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, gives up her mandate early.

She will also not run for the next general election as planned.

The 58-year-old said on Sunday the station Stuggi.TV.

She had received an exciting offer from the health sector that she wanted to take advantage of.

The head of Maag's Stuttgart office confirmed the decision on dpa request.

Now the CDU district association has to look for replacement candidates.

In September last year, the CDU nominated Maag as a candidate for the northern urban area in Stuttgart constituency II.

At that time, the former office manager of Lord Mayor Wolfgang Schuster, who has been deputy district chairman of the CDU Stuttgart since 2011, only narrowly prevailed against Maximilian Mörseburg.

The 29-year-old Mörseburg confirmed his interest in running again on Stuggi.TV on Sunday evening.

"I am passionate about my hometown Stuttgart and would be able to stand up even in the current difficult times," he said.
