Cairo (dpa) - Another serious train accident occurred in Egypt - this time with at least nine dead and around 100 injured.

In the province of Kaljubia near Cairo, several wagons have derailed, said the governor of the province and the railway authority.

Videos of the accident site showed overturned wagons, and sirens from ambulances could also be heard.

Nine people were killed, it said from security circles.

An investigation should now clarify the cause of the accident.

In Egypt, a train derailed in the northern province of Minja just a few days ago, injuring 15 people.

A few weeks earlier, two trains had collided near Assiut - 19 people were killed and around 180 others were injured.

In the worst rail disaster in the country in recent history, a train caught fire in 2002, killing more than 360 people.

Serious train accidents occur time and again in Egypt.

According to critics, the cause is often the poor condition of trains and tracks as well as poor training of train staff.
