London (AP) - After the death of Prince Philip, the BBC received a record number of viewer complaints because of its coverage of the Queen's deceased husband.

As the British Broadcasting Corporation announced, 110,000 complaints were received over television and radio reports about Royal, who died last Friday at the age of 99.

The public service broadcaster had temporarily set up its own online form in order to cope with the large number of letters.

Above all, the large size does not seem to have been well received by many viewers.

Some BBC television channels changed their programs on Friday following the news of Philip's death.

This affected broadcasts on Friday and Saturday.

Among other things, the finale of the cooking talent show “MasterChef”.

According to a report by the Guardian, the ratings had also dropped significantly as a result.

The broadcaster BBC Two has even lost around two thirds of its viewers, it said.

"We do not make such changes without careful consideration, and the decisions made reflect the role of the BBC as a national broadcaster in moments of national importance," said a statement on the BBC website.

The fact that Prince Andrew was featured prominently on BBC television also caused anger among viewers.

The 61-year-old answered questions from reporters after a service in Windsor on Sunday and described his father, Prince Philip, as the “grandfather of the nation”.

The second eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II had withdrawn from the public in late 2019 after he was accused of being involved in the Epstein abuse scandal.

In a BBC interview, he denied all allegations, but did not cut a good figure.
