Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate state government has again extended the school bus program in the corona pandemic - until the summer holidays.

For the additional buses necessary because of the Corona distance regulations, the state will assume 90 percent of the costs, as Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) and Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) announced in Mainz on Wednesday.

The offer was last extended until April 15th.

An additional 250 buses have been in use since summer 2020.

A total of nine million euros would be available to support the districts and municipalities for the additional trips.

So far, 33 of the 36 districts and municipalities have made use of the state's financial support.

The Rhein-Hunsrück, Ahrweiler and Altenkirchen districts currently see no need, the message says.

For 2020, around 3.6 million euros in funding have been approved for the districts and municipalities.

Applications for the second funding round from January to Easter were currently received.
