Munich (dpa) - In the opinion of Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder, the planned federal emergency brake is not enough to contain the third corona wave.

“We think it is right that this emergency brake is firmly anchored at the federal level.

But that alone will not help, we have to think more carefully, "said the CSU chief on Wednesday on the sidelines of the meeting of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament.

What is needed is, for example, “a more modern and flexible vaccination concept in order to increase the speed by reducing bureaucracy and, above all, to make it more flexible”.

Söder emphasized that the corona situation in Germany was still very difficult.

All forecasts about the number of infections would be confirmed.

«It rises and rises and rises.

It's not going back, ”said Söder.

This applies to both the number of infected people and the occupancy of intensive care beds in hospitals.

"We are now reaching our limits regionally."

The federal cabinet decided on Tuesday to amend the Infection Protection Act, which provides for nationwide measures for regions with many new infections.

This means that people in large parts of Germany have to adjust to exit restrictions and closed shops.

Next week, the changes will first be decided by parliament and then passed by the Bundesrat - despite clear criticism from some countries and the opposition in the Bundestag.
