Schwerin (dpa / mv) - After several announcements, the state government has presented a legal regulation for the change of former and active ministers and state secretaries to the private sector.

According to the draft law, which was dealt with in the first reading in the state parliament on Wednesday, they must notify them of taking up employment outside the public service within one year of leaving the government.

If the new job could affect public interests, a waiting period of one year can be imposed.

The law will clarify what ministers, parliamentary state secretaries and state secretaries have to observe after their office when they start new activities.

“It's about clarity for those affected themselves, but also for the public.

Because people have to be able to rely on politicians only keeping an eye on the obligations of their office and the common good and not looking at their future professional activity with one eye, ”said Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).

The domestic political spokesman for the left-wing parliamentary group, Peter Ritter, once again expressed his lack of understanding that the bill had been so long in coming.

It hardly differs from the draft that his group submitted in 2018.

"What was so difficult about it now," asked Ritter and withdrew his own draft.

At the federal level and in several other federal states, there are already waiting period regulations.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the seamless change of the then Energy Minister Volker Schlotmann (SPD) to the eco-energy sector in 2014 sparked discussions.
