Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - After the announcement of the route for possible new tracks in the Inn Valley in the direction of Brenner, representatives in the region are calling for improvements, in particular further underground tunnels.

Citizens' groups announced massive opposition to the project on Wednesday - they already see an opportunity to sue.

The railway announced on Tuesday that the planned new route should run east of Rosenheim and Inn;

With a tunnel share of 60 percent, it is the most complex of the last four variants.

The citizens' initiative “Pro Riedering-brenna tuats” reacted in horror - the tracks should go right past the site.

The route is presented as the most environmentally friendly.

"In reality it is the longest, most expensive and technically complex route," explained the initiative on Wednesday.

"And why no tunnel should be built in the municipality of Riedering, which is located directly on the Simssee nature reserve, only makes people shake their heads."

In the opinion of the citizens' initiatives, the publication of the route has created the preconditions for preventive injunctions under civil law.

Owners whose property the route would run over would therefore have an immediate right to sue.

"And the Riederinger will now make extensive use of this."

In some cases, the Deutsche Bahn's proposal was rated positively.

"The route is the best possible solution for people and the environment," said the Rosenheim member of the Bundestag Daniela Ludwig (CSU) on Tuesday.

The direct concern of the residents is minimized, the proposal is also the result of intensive public participation.

"But one thing is also clear: the work is only just beginning."

There are sections that need to be revised and improved.

Especially north of Rosenheim, Ludwig asked for further tunnel solutions to be examined.

The Rosenheim district administrator Otto Lederer (CSU) said that the choice was a step in the right direction, since the land use was the lowest.

However, it is incomprehensible that a new line is planned in such a way that it crosses infrastructure facilities such as federal highways or railroad tracks above ground.

"The fact that no underground sections of the route are currently planned north or west of Rosenheim cannot be conveyed."

The Mayor of Rosenheim, Andreas März (CSU), called for a tunnel under the Inn in the north of the city.

In the regional planning procedure, an underground solution was set as a stipulation.

In the regional planning procedure, the affected municipalities and the Rosenheim district council had almost entirely rejected all five variants of the railway that were available at the time.

Only Flintsbach and Nussdorf saw the proposal now chosen as possible with extensive tunneling.

Kolbermoor's mayor Peter Kloo, whose area is now not directly affected, was relieved, according to Bayerischer Rundfunk.

He assumes that there will be a big sigh of relief in Kolbermoor.

The overall project remains a challenge for the region.

Kloo also expresses doubts about the need for a new line.

Citizens' initiatives and the Bund Naturschutz reject the project and speak of a billion-dollar grave.

The existing tracks are currently not even half full.

The corona-related changes also for traffic would not be taken into account.

From the opponents' point of view, the need for the new building has not been proven.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) had explained that the 2016 project had been included in the rail requirements plan as an urgent priority and that the need for expansion was thus enshrined in law.

Gerhard Maier, member of the Citizens' Forum Inntal and specialist lawyer for administrative law, spoke of an arbitrary prescription of a need.

The planning order is "on feet of clay".

Citizens' initiatives have announced a “wave of protests” through the Inn Valley for April 24th.

From Easter Munich to Oberaudorf they want to set a loud signal with pots, whistles and cowbells.
