Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Several municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia are postponing the easing of the corona pandemic linked to a model project.

The reason is the currently too high incidence values in the respective cities and regions.

Münster, Ahaus and Mönchengladbach will not start on April 19 as planned, but at a later date, as the cities agreed.

According to information from the "Rheinische Post", the Paderborn district does not start as planned.

In Mönchengladbach, the corona model project cannot start as planned because the incidence is too high.

The rate of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week is 123.4, said a spokesman on Wednesday.

However, the value must be stable below 100 before the start.

"The preparations continue," emphasized the spokesman for the city with 260,000 inhabitants.

In Mönchengladbach, as part of the model project, Bundesliga football is to be made possible again in front of an audience.

Ahaus also has to postpone because the incidence value in the Borken district is too high.

The city of Münster reported 81 newly infected people on Wednesday, the strongest increase in new infections since the end of December.

"Due to this significant deterioration in the infection situation, we are suspending the start of the digital model projects originally planned for next week for an indefinite period," explains crisis team leader Wolfgang Heuer according to the announcement.

It is to be expected that Münster will also exceed the relevant incidence value of 100 in the short term.

"And unfortunately it is to be expected that the end of the flagpole has not yet been reached," says Heuer.
