Berlin / Babelsberg (dpa / bb) - 96 cinemas in Berlin and Brandenburg will be honored for their special film program.

The Medienboard Berlin-Brandeburg is providing a record amount of 1.5 million euros for the cinema program award, according to information on Thursday.

This should honor "the incredible stamina, the tireless commitment and the immense creativity" in the exceptional year of the pandemic.

96 cinemas receive an instant bonus of 5000 euros.

The 51 award-winning cinemas from the previous year once again received the same premium as in 2020 between 5,000 and 35,000 euros.

Since annual programming was not possible in the Corona year, the Medienboard was based on the program of the cinemas from 2019, it said.

"We want to do our part to ensure that the cinemas continue to overcome these enormous challenges - so that we can soon safely experience great cinema on the big screen again," said Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus.
