Munich (AP) - In the struggle for their home games at the European Football Championship, the city of Munich and the German Football Association (DFB) are only assuming two realistic spectator scenarios.
At a meeting of the city council's sports committee on Wednesday, three variants for the summer tournament were presented.
These are ghost games without fans, an Allianz Arena that is around 20 percent full and a capacity of 40 percent.
In view of the development in the corona pandemic with the current increase in infection numbers, none of those responsible considers the latter scenario to be feasible.
Accordingly, an arena that is around a fifth full is most of what Munich has promised the European Football Union.
“It's a huge stadium,” said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann to the “kicker”.
If you were to occupy only every seventh seat, "10,000 people would gather there, which in terms of mood would be a great gain compared to a completely empty stadium," he said.
UEFA wants a guarantee from the twelve host cities that it will definitely be possible to play in front of spectators in the summer.
Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter said at the beginning of the week, referring to the pandemic, that this was not possible.

That is why ghost games had to remain a variant for the Bavarian capital.
However, Munich risks losing its three group games and one quarter-finals again.
“UEFA would like Munich to be there,” said DFB Vice President Rainer Koch to the “kicker” and hopes for a “message” from politics.
Next week, UEFA will make a final decision on the venues.
Nine cities have already promised spectators in the arenas;
they were therefore confirmed as venues for the European tournament.
In addition to Munich, Bilbao and Dublin are also questionable.
