For the return to school, which will take place in two parts for primary and secondary students, the Ministry of National Education has ordered 52.5 million self-tests, Europe 1 learned on Wednesday evening.

The practical methods of carrying out these tests are still being discussed.

EUROPE INFO 1

The Ministry of National Education is speeding up the Covid-19 self-tests to deploy them as of the start of the school year.

The order amounts to 245 million euros, according to information gathered by Europe 1 on Wednesday evening.

The idea is to provide it to primary school teachers from April 26, and from May 3 to high school students and secondary school teachers twice a week.

The High Authority does not recommend for the moment that they are intended for those over 15 years old.

The Ministry of National Education is therefore in the process of consulting teachers and school leaders to find out how to organize them very concretely.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Wednesday April 14

Two hypotheses on the table

Should they be deployed in the classroom or at home?

First hypothesis on the table: carry out the self-tests in class.

Either by grouping students from several classes in a large room for a theoretical part, then in SVT practical work, or during the hour of SVT class.

With, in this case, a first theoretical part of explanations of the instructions, then a second, practical, each student at his table with his long cotton swab in his nose.

But the teachers are puzzled.

What if there are positive students?

How to furnish during the 20 minutes waiting for the result?

The cautious teachers ask that the tests be rather done at home so that they are under the control of the parents.

The reluctance of the principals

Same reluctance on the side of the union of principals, SNPDEN, consulted on Wednesday by the minister's office.

If they are ready to serve as a logistical base to store self-tests, however, it is out of the question to ask teachers to supervise the tests.

A school principal tells us: "A good tutorial on You Tube will be more effective than a Spanish teacher."

The question must in any case be decided at the interministerial level.

And the Ministry of National Education must communicate very quickly on the details and conditions of deployment.
