Dresden (dpa / sn) - Provenance research in museums has been funded by the Free State with millions for over a decade.

According to the Ministry of Culture, more than 23.8 million euros flowed into the “Daphne” project alone, in the course of which the holdings of the State Art Collections (SKD) have been recorded and viewed since 2008 , 55 million euros per year.

This sum is also planned for 2021 and in the new double household.

"We can only live up to our historical responsibility and our duties if we create the greatest possible transparency about the origin of our museum holdings," said Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU) on the day of provenance research in Dresden.

The Free State supports museums directly and indirectly in this.

According to ministry information, research into its origin is now a matter of course and part of the catalog of tasks in state institutions that dispose of cultural assets.

However, the very cost-intensive provenance research represents an additional burden for municipal sponsors.
