Halle (dpa / sa) - The former Saxony-Anhalt Minister of Social Affairs Gerry Kley is dead. The 60-year-old liberal died peacefully at home, said a spokesman for the FDP in Halle on Thursday.

Kley, who studied biology, was Minister of Social Affairs in the cabinet of Wolfgang Böhmer (CDU) from 2002 to 2006.

According to the FDP, he belonged to the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament for three legislative periods.

In Halle he had been the district chairman of the FDP for around ten years, a long city councilor and parliamentary group leader.

Many people remember Kley for his aggressiveness.

According to the FDP, he has largely withdrawn from active politics since 2014, when he was no longer a top candidate for the local elections.

He worked as a freelancer in an environmental engineering company.
