Hohenstein-Ernstthal (dpa) - On June 20, races are to be started at the Sachsenring as part of the motorcycle world championship.

As the organizer, the ADAC wants to stick to the World Cup races, even if this year's Grand Prix will probably have to be held without fans due to the corona.

"As the organizer, we are well prepared for various scenarios," said an ADAC spokesman on Wednesday.

"A decision as to whether viewers will be admitted this year or not will be made by the end of the month."

So far it has been speculated that races without spectators are not an option.

That would leave enough time for the necessary preparations.

In contrast to the other courses in the motorcycle world championship, the Sachsenring near Hohenstein-Ernstthal as a driving safety center is not a permanent race track.

As a result, additional costs are incurred year after year, for example for the assembly and dismantling of the grandstands and the construction of the necessary infrastructure.

For the ADAC world championship races without spectators are a negative business.

The main source of income is ticket sales.

For this reason there was no German Grand Prix last year.

In the event of a renewed cancellation, the ADAC fears that the good relationship with MotoGP rights holder Dorna will be jeopardized and the Sachsenring could thus be permanently removed from the racing calendar.
