Alsfeld (dpa / lhe) - One week after the start of the Alsfeld model project to test easing in the corona pandemic, it is on the brink due to the increased number of infections.

"If, as we fear, the incidence will be over 200 again on Friday, that means the project will be interrupted," said Mayor Stephan Paule (CDU), referring to the figures from the Robert Koch Institute for the Vogelsberg district on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the incidence there - i.e. new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - exceeded the limit of 200 at 217.7.

For the corona model projects in Hesse, the following applies according to the requirements of the state: If the incidence across a district is above the limit value for three days in a row, the experiment must subsequently be ended or interrupted.

Paule also expected a value above 200 for Thursday (tomorrow) in the Vogelsbergkreis, where Alsfeld is located.

It will probably be known on Thursday afternoon whether the incidence will also exceed the value on Friday.

In this case, the business people are informed "that they can no longer open on Friday".

It is about safety and not about enjoying relaxation until the last possible point in time, says Paule.

The city wants to discuss how to proceed with the country at the end of the week.

The project began in Alsfeld on Thursday last week.

Initially, the retail trade in the city center was allowed to open.

A current, negative corona test is required for shopping.

Paule was satisfied with the way things went so far: the city had not been overrun, and 3175 corona tests had been carried out in the three centers up to and including Tuesday.

Of these, 26 were positive.

However, there is no indication that the infections can be attributed to the opening of the retail trade.

Baunatal in Northern Hesse is one of the Hessian municipalities that can test openings for a limited period of time.

Dieburg, a model municipality in southern Hesse, initially refrained from opening the door.
