Schleswig (dpa / lno) - Under the motto “Something sweet for the soul”, the bakers are thanking Schleswig-Holsteiners for their special commitment in the corona pandemic with a total of 10,000 quark balls.

Master baker Klaus-Dieter Lemmermann from the Schmidt bakery in Silberstedt (Schleswig-Flensburg district) brought 1,500 pieces of these sweets to the Helios Klinikum Schleswig on Wednesday, where twelve nurses received the unusual present.

"I think that's great," said Julia Siert, head of 400 nurses at the location.

"That's a very nice gesture."

The corona situation is very stressful for everyone, even if the number of patients in the north is not as high as elsewhere.

With the quark ball campaign, the bakers in the north are honoring the efforts of doctors, nurses, educators, police officers, firefighters and other helpers.

“I think it's great to consider those who did more than others during the pandemic,” said master baker Lemmermann.

From the Schleswig-Flensburg guild alone, 17 companies and almost all of them took part in the campaign.
