Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Two weeks after the devastating fire in the pig breeding facility Alt Tellin (Western Pomerania-Greifswald) with 55,000 dead sows and piglets, the state parliament is concerned with the keeping of farm animals.

At the initiative of the CDU, animal welfare in breeding and fattening farms is the topic of the current hour at the beginning of the session on Wednesday.

Incidents like those in Alt Tellin must be prevented in the future, emphasized the head of the CDU parliamentary group, Wolfgang Waldmüller.

The opposition left called for immediate action.

In addition, large industrially operated fattening and breeding facilities should no longer be approved in the future, it said.

The government declaration by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on how to proceed in the corona pandemic, which was originally planned for Wednesday, was postponed to Friday.

The next MV summit is planned for the same day, at which the government will discuss the consequences of the growing number of new infections and the changes in the Federal Infection Protection Act with municipalities, businesses and medical professionals.

Numerous laws for deliberation and decision-making were before parliament on Wednesday.

These include changes to the state water law, the teacher training law and a law against the misappropriation of rented apartments, for example as holiday homes.
