Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony’s CDU parliamentary group leader Christian Hartmann can introduce himself to the Bavarian Prime Minister and CSU chairman Markus Söder as the Union’s candidate for chancellor.

"In consideration of all the associated perspectives, I am personally of the conviction that Markus Söder should lead the Union into the federal election campaign," said Hartmann on Tuesday when asked.

He had previously spoken in the "Free Press".

However, with CDU boss Armin Laschet and Söder, the Union has two suitable top candidates for the federal election.

Now it is time to make a decision and to create clarity for the Union parties and the country, demanded Hartmann.

CDU General Secretary Alexander Dierks, on the other hand, was more cautious about the K question: "With Armin Laschet and Markus Söder, two extremely successful and experienced prime ministers are ready for the candidacy for chancellor."

However, Dierks also urged a quick decision on "who will lead us into the election."

In the internal Union power struggle for the candidacy for chancellor, Söder and Laschet campaigned for themselves in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group on Tuesday and clearly set themselves apart from one another.
