Minneapolis (AP) - After the death of a young black man in a police operation in the US state of Minnesota, there were again protests and riots.

More than 60 people were arrested in Brooklyn Center in the north of the city of Minneapolis, among other things for causing unrest, the police said on Wednesday night (local time) at a press conference.

Hundreds of people had gathered in front of the local police station on Tuesday evening and, among other things, demanded an independent investigation into the case of the killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright, as US media reported.

The protest had initially started peacefully, but after dark, according to authorities, rioters threw objects such as bricks and full bottles at the officials.

According to media reports, the police used stun grenades and tear gas against the demonstrators, among other things.

The National Guard was also on duty.

As on Tuesday, there was a night curfew in several cities in the region, including Brooklyn Center.

Hundreds of people had violated the restriction the previous night.

Since Sunday there had been protests, some of them violent, in Brooklyn Center after a police officer shot Wright at a traffic stop.

According to police reports, she had mistakenly drawn her pistol instead of a stun gun (taser).

The officer and the local police chief announced their resignation on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the investigators want to announce on Wednesday whether charges will be brought against the policewoman.

In the city of Minneapolis, just under 20 kilometers away, the trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin is currently underway for the violent death of African American George Floyd in May of last year.
